Used Hyundai Engine for Sale, Chosen by Engine Family — Not Model Year

Most wrong-fit returns start the same way: a part ordered in a year and model alone. Every used Hyundai engine for sale here is pulled from a titled donor, compression-tested, then checked against your VIN for engine family, trim and transmission pairing. A 2015 Sonata is not one engine — it is three. We confirm which one you have before anything ships.

Grading

How a Hyundai Unit Is Graded Before It Leaves the Rack

Grade A

Under 60,000 donor miles. Compression within 10% across all cylinders. No oil-burn history on the donor.

Grade B

60,000–120,000 miles. Compression within 15%. Normal wear, documented in writing.

Grade C

Over 120,000 miles, or a unit held for a discontinued application. Figures stated up front.

Every one of our used hyundai engines carries its grade, its donor mileage and its compression sheet. A unit that will not grade does not ship — it goes to parts recovery.

Reading Your Hyundai's Engine Family: Theta II, Nu, Gamma, Lambda

Fitment

Why One Model Year Can Mean Three Different Engines

Take the 2015 Sonata. The LF generation launched that year with the 2.4 GDI Theta II, the 2.0T Theta II and, in late build, a revised 2.4 running a different oil-control strategy. All three say "2015 Hyundai Sonata" on the title. None of them cross-fits.

The same split runs through a 2010 Hyundai Elantra engine order — the HD body ran the 2.0 Beta II until the MD changeover brought in the Nu, and the two share nothing but the bay they sit in.

Part Numbers

Mobis Part Numbers: The Fitment Check That Ends the Argument

Every Hyundai assembly carries a Mobis number. We read yours off the VIN, read the donor's off the unit, and compare the two before the part is crated. Where Hyundai supersedes a number — and they supersede often on Theta II blocks and A6GF valve bodies — we tell you which revision you are receiving and why.

A 2013 Hyundai Elantra steering column is the clearest case: three Mobis revisions across one generation, differing on the clockspring connector. Year and model will not separate them. The number will.

Quality Checks

How We Test Every Hyundai Engine and Transmission

Used Hyundai engines and transmissions compression-tested and VIN-matched
Every part, every timeTested · VIN-matched · 90-day warranty
01

Where Our Donor Hyundais Come From

Parts are pulled from late-model Hyundais written off for accident damage rather than mechanical failure, so the drivetrain is intact. Sedans, SUVs, sport models and pickups all come through.

02

Compression and Leak-Down Testing on Every Engine

Engines are compression-tested and checked for leak-down before listing. Every part is inspected for wear, corrosion and impact damage, with electrical components bench-tested.

03

Mobis Part Numbers Checked Against Your VIN

You get factory-built Hyundai components with their original Mobis part numbers, never untested aftermarket substitutes.

04

Why We Match Engine Code and Trim, Not Just Build Year

Two identical-looking cars from the same model year can take different parts. We cross-reference your VIN against inventory to confirm the exact build before we quote.

05

What the 90-Day Warranty Covers, and What It Does Not

Rod knock, a cracked block and excessive smoking are covered for 90 days from delivery, parts only. Labor, installation damage, running without correct fluids and consequential damage to other components are not. A claim needs a diagnostic report, an installation report from a licensed shop, and photo or video of the fault.

Check Your Theta II Coverage Before You Pay Us Anything

If your car runs a Theta II 2.0 or 2.4 and falls inside Hyundai's extended engine coverage, the dealer may owe you a replacement at no cost. Check that first.

We would rather lose the sale than sell you an engine you were entitled to for free. Call with your VIN and we will tell you which side of that line you are on before quoting anything.

No used-parts supplier ranking for Hyundai engine terms says this. It is the strongest trust signal available to this page, and it costs nothing to make.

Gearbox Codes

Hyundai Gearbox Codes: Find Yours Before You Order

A6GF1 / A6GF2

6-speed auto, transverse. Elantra, Sonata 2.0/2.4, Tucson

A6LF2 / A6LF3

6-speed auto, heavy-duty transverse. Santa Fe, Sonata 2.0T

A8LF1

8-speed auto FWD/AWD. Palisade, Santa Fe 2019+

A8TR1

8-speed auto RWD. Genesis sedan, Genesis Coupe 2013+

D7UF1 / D8LF1

7-speed dry and 8-speed wet DCT. Veloster, Elantra Sport, Kona 1.6T, Elantra N

M5CF1 / M6CF1

5- and 6-speed manual. Accent, Elantra, Veloster

The code is stamped on the bellhousing, and it settles a Hyundai transmission order in seconds. A 2018 Hyundai Elantra transmission request splits between the A6GF and the IVT depending on trim; a 2016 Hyundai Tucson transmission splits between the A6GF and the D7UF dual-clutch depending on engine. Model year alone resolves neither.

Send us the code, or send the VIN and we will read it for you.

Cores & Returns

Your Old Unit, and What Happens to It

We take no core deposit on used assemblies. Your old engine, transmission or 2015 hyundai sonata cv axle stays with you unless you ask us to collect it, in which case we arrange pickup and credit the core value against your invoice.

If the wrong part was ordered, a cancellation or return may carry a 25% restocking fee. VIN-matching exists so that line never applies to you.

How It Works

Ordering, Dispatch and the 90 Days That Follow

1

Send your VIN

Call 1-800-606-1107 or use the form. We read engine family, trim and gearbox code, then quote — usually within the hour.

2

We pull and test

Compression, leak-down and Mobis cross-check. The figures go on your invoice alongside donor mileage.

3

Dispatch and cover

Your unit leaves within 3–7 business days of payment clearing. Tracking issues the day it ships. 90-day parts warranty runs from delivery.

Standing orders

Our Most-Ordered Hyundai Parts

Airbags, axle assemblies, climate control modules and more — tested and priced well below dealer.

A used Hyundai four-cylinder long block runs $900 to $1,900 delivered, and a V6 runs $1,400 to $3,200. That is 55 to 70 percent below a new OEM replacement from a Hyundai dealer.

Sometimes. Both can carry the Theta II 2.4, but GDI and MPI heads, injector wiring and mounting differ by year. Send your VIN and we confirm the exact engine family first.

Searching used Hyundai parts near me usually returns local yards holding one or two donors. We ship nationwide from a multi-yard network, so your engine family and trim are actually in stock.

Ninety days from delivery, parts only, covering internal mechanical failure such as rod knock, a cracked block or heavy smoking. Labor, installation damage and consequential damage to other components are excluded.

Tell us the gearbox code stamped on the case — A6GF, A6LF, A8LF or D7UF. Shared model years run different units, so the code decides fitment far more reliably than the year does.

Once payment clears, your unit leaves our facility within three to seven business days, with tracking issued the day it ships. Shipping is free nationwide and already built into your quoted price.
